Write about the way people use language. Consider the following:
- Are there different kinds of slang?
- What types of people use slang?
- When is slang appropriate?
- When is slang not appropriate?
In order to receive full credit you must write at least 5 complete and correct sentences with quotation marks around any slang words you use. You must also respond to a classmate's post using one of the following sentence starters:
I agree because...
I disagree because...
I don't understand...
That reminds me of...
I use slang sometimes when I'm with my friends. I feel it is appropriate to use when we are just fooling around. It is not appropriate to use slang when you are talking to your parents or teachers. I have mixed feelings about people who use it. If your taking to an adult using slang, i disapprove of it.

DeleteI sometimes use slang only when I'm talking to family. Sometimes I don't understand what they are saying till they actually say what it is.
ReplyDeleteSlang can be a good method of communicating, but then again, it's considered "improper" or "ghetto", but the reality of it is to shorten lengthy words into abbreviations. such as Boulevard(Blvd.) or Avenue(Ave.), these are a few examples of my perspective on the word, but more inadequate words can range from " Chillin' " to " Cuz ' " or "dawg". Most end w/o a G in the (-ing) verb ending.

DeleteI use slang to a certain point. I don't use them all of the time, just when i cant think of a better word off of the top of my head. I think that there is nothing wrong with slang. Everyone uses slang words. There is slang describing positive and negative situations. Slang is appropriate most of the time. The only time it should be inappropriate is when you are talking with a teacher or parent and the word is very offensive.

DeleteI think people use Slang to either Shorten up what they were going to originally say or just sound cool. I sometimes use Slang to Shorten up what i would say usually. It can get confusing sometimes. Th words people say can sometimes not be comprehended. I think slang should just be used when your talking face to face because when you write it in a text or an essay you will leave people with a question of, "what does that mean?"

DeleteDo i use slang? yes i do all the the time.I feel that slang is not really a big deal to worry about its just another form of communitcation.I guess you could say there are diffrent types of slang, but i think slang is not for certin people i think slang is a generial thing like anyone can use it if they chose to.When i think of slang i think of talking between friends or family members i dont think its really appropriate to use it with someone formal or your boss or someone professtional.

DeleteI agree with your last statement that its not really appropriate when talking to someone formal but i disagree with this whole thing because even though you talk to friends you should still try and sound smart. Slang is a bad way to speak to another individual. Slang is very confusing at times, some people use slang on words that don't even need to be slanged. I wish that slang never existed because people just sound so obnoxious when using it.
DeleteI think slang is appropriate in some situations like if you're with your friends and you're just " hangin' " out then its fine but if you're at a job interview you need to use correct grammar. Using slang during an interview isn't "gonna" get you anywhere except " flippin' " burgers at McDonalds. You don't have to be a certain race or color to use slang you can be city, country, white, black, etc... Everyone uses slang at sometime or another. It just comes "outta" your mouth sometimes.

ReplyDeleteI feel that people should not use slang because its improper and people sound ignorant when they use slang. Slang is probably appropriate during a text message like if you're in a rush and you don't really have much time to text but even then you should try and use proper english. You should never use slang if you're going to a job interview because you'll sound ignorant and idiotic. I, myself, try to stay away from as much slang as possible because when a person talk you should be able to understand them without them having to repeat them self . Usually people use "ghetto" slang or text slang because its easy and they are two lazy to say the word right. I believe that people should try and stay away from slang as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI use slang language all the time its the way most people speak today. people use slang words like "dang" thats one of the words i use to i feel that theres nothing wrong with slang. slang is more appropriate around your friends not for a interview for a job.I think there is only one type of slang and thats the type of slang that everyone thinks is ghetto.slang is like an abbreviation of words to me .

DeleteI think slang is okay in certain situations. Many of people use slang and might not even know it, it has become apart of our language. I use it sometimes, but I don't think its okay to use it when you're talking to someone important or writing an essay. Theres obvious slang, like when you're texting someone and you use "omg" & "brb". There is some slang that we don't even know we use.
ReplyDeleteI Agree with this, as long as it makes sense I use slang sometimes in appropriate situations, I say it like in funny or comical situations where we are just having a good time I guess. Then again when people can't understand you when your using slang in every single sentence. People all over the world use different kinds of "Slang", saying "My bad" or " My fault" in my opinion are not types of slang. I disagree with people who use "Slang" in every single sentence because that's not grammatically correct. I also can't understand people who do that, this reminds me of Baltimore where every single sentence someone uses "Slang". It's just like speak correctly and you won't sound stupid.
ReplyDeletei think that just about everybody uses some type of slang. Its mostly used in texting to say things faster. For example people would say things like idc for (i don't care) and outer things like that. Slang is appropriate when your texting and outer things like that. Its not appropriate when your talking professionally.

DeleteI use slang a lot because it is very useful when you are trying to say some thing quick and fast. But some times it is not appropriate like when you are writing a paper when its a grade. Any type of people use slang. Slang is just another way of saying some thing. Their is a ton a different ways to use slang.

Slang is not appropriate when your talking to an important person. Slang is considered improper to some people, you should use slang when your texting someone or on social media. Different types of people use it it doesn't matter your race or gender. Slang is appropriate when you're with your friends,family/siblings.. its appropriate because its nobody important really.Slang is not appropriate when you're talking to high authority; like your teachers,principle the president and people in that matter. Some people are so used to using slang they don't even know they use it I'm a victim of it too.

I do not think that people should use slang around parents, teachers, or adults. Slang is appropriate when using it around your friends jokingly or for fun. Slang is not appropriate when in a serious situation or around parents, teachers, and adults.
ReplyDeleteUsually when you hear about the word slang you automatically think "improper" though it is used commonly used. Usually if you go in "The Hood" you hear it more than other places mostly because thats where most slang comes from. The different types of slang are the 2 words in 1 or a abbreviation of a more intricate word. If you ask me if i use slang i would say only to be funny other than that i think that using slang is to improper. The people who use slang are usually people who like slang or find it fascinating. The places you should use slang is with your friend though if your trying to be formal though i recommend not using it at all.

I think slang is only good in certain places and bad in others. like when you go to a fancy restaurant with your family you are expected to talk normal and not using slang words. and when talking to your parents teacher grandparents you are expected to talk to them with respect. I'm not sure how i feel about slang word i think its fine when you are just messing around with your friends.

Slang is appropriate when you are talking to your friend or texting because that person is usually around you, so they know what your trying to convey.I think there many types of slang because we are all form different places.I think everybody uses slang because every bodies background is different parts of the world. So if you happen to have an accent and when you talk it is easily mistaken as slang.

If you were born hearing these slang words then I don't mind you using it, but if you use it just to sound cool or to fit in thats when it bothers me. I don't nessiserly think there is an appropriate time to use it. But you shouldn't use it when your at work, or when you're talking to your parents or any other kinds of authority.
I use slang when I'm texting. Slang can be different, it depends where your from. The people who will use slang the most are probably people who text a lot, or have social medias. Slang is not appropriate when you are writing in class. Slang is appropriate when you are texting.

When people use slang it really doesn't bother me because I use it in every day life. I think it not appropriate when you are at a job interview or in public. But i think it is appropriate to use slang with family or at your house.

Some people say slang is ghetto or trashy, I just think people use it to sum up what they are saying or trying to act cool around their friends. But my family uses slang a lot because my family is southern and i grew up around that so i learned it as i grew up. So when people use slang it doesn't effect me but they just need to use it in the correct way and at the right times.
